Najib lauded for upholding Islam, Malay rights
PADANG TERAP: Umno leaders have lauded party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak for reaffirming Umno’s commitment to uphold Islam and Malay rights.
They also expressed confidence that the party was ready to face the next general election regardless of when it was called.
“The party is on the right track to face GE14 and we are talking about a real machinery on the ground, not just mere numbers on paper,” said Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid here yesterday.
In Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man said the massive crowd at Umno’s 71st anniversary yesterday was a testament to the party’s strength and unity.
“It shows that Umno is prepared for the general election and it is not weak as some people claimed. The number of new members also keeps growing every day,” he said yesterday.
In Umno Dungun division committee member Datuk Za’abar Mohd Adib said Umno had never abandoned the interests of the Malays and Bumiputera.
“He (Najib) made it clear in his speech that the government is always with the people during ups and downs. This is the kind of leader we need as we head towards 2050.

(TN50) agenda will not only spur the country’s growth, but also set a clear direction for the nation,” he said.
In Sabah Umno Youth vice-chief Shahelmy Yahya said the party had always fought for the rights of all Malaysians.
“Umno has never stopped (fighting) even after seven decades.
“Where we are today, no one can deny Umno’s achievements in education, healthcare and the economy,” he said yesterday.
Meanwhile, Sabah Umno Youth deputy permanent chairman Bahrul Razha Chuprat said young party leaders must continue serving the people to preserve Umno’s status as the country’s backbone.
“Umno always trains young leaders and gives them the opportunity to contest in the elections.”
