Sea Games baton.

The Rising Together Run began in Brunei on March 5 and it spanned nine other Asean countries before arriving in Malaysia yesterday.

The baton run, the first of its kind in the Sea Games and Asean Para Games, was organised by the KL2017 Malaysia Organising Committee (MASOC) with help from other Asean countries.

Khairy said the KL2017 Torch Run was historic in its scope as participan­ts will achieve great feats while passing the Sea Games torch at landmarks throughout Malaysia.

“The torch will be soaring high in the sky as it will be brought down by skydivers who will conduct base jump off the KL Tower,” said Khairy.

The minister had earlier attended the Singapore-leg of the Rising Together Run where he handed over the baton to Singapore’s Minister of Culture,

Participan­ts then carried the baton across the Causeway on a Keretapi Tanah Melayu shuttle train from Woodlands to the JB Sentral station.

Upon arrival at Muzium Tokoh, the 600g baton made by pewtermake­r Royal Selangor was switched to a torch and passed from KL2017 mascot Rimau to Khairy, marking the start of the nationwide Torch Run.

Khairy passed the torch to Johor Youth, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Datuk Zulkurnain Kamisan.

The Torch Run will pass through six districts namely Johor Baru, Kulai ,Kluang, Batu Pahat, Muar and Tangkak until May 18. The run will then proceed to Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Labuan and Sabah as well as other states.
