KUALA LUMPUR: A woman and her boyfriend were remanded on suspicion of murdering her two-year-old boy.

The mother, 29, had sent him to Kajang Hospital on early Saturday morning when she found him having breathing difficulties when she woke up at 6.55am.

He was pronounced dead minutes after he was treated in the emergency room.

Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Othman Nanyan said the doctor noticed red marks and swelling on the baby’s body during a preliminary check.

“Post-mortem revealed bruises on his body, a broken rib and ruptured pancreas that caused internal bleeding.”

He died of abdominal injuries due to blunt force trauma.”

Following the death, the boy’s mother, a kindergarten helper, and her 39-year-old eatery worker boyfriend were remanded seven days to assist police investigations.

The woman has a clean record.

But her boyfriend tested positive for marijuana and has an earlier record for a drug case.

This case has been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
