Woman, boyfriend held over toddler’s death

KUALA LUMPUR: A woman and her boyfriend were remanded on suspicion of murdering her two-year-old boy.

The mother, 29, had sent him to Kajang Hospital on early Saturday morning when she found him having breathing difficulti­es when she woke up at 6.55am.

He was pronounced dead minutes after he was treated in the emergency room.

Kajang district police chief Assistant Commission­er Othman Nanyan said the doctor noticed red marks and swelling on the baby’s body during a preliminar­y check.

“Post-mortem revealed bruises on his body, a broken rib and ruptured pancreas that caused internal bleeding.”

He died of abdominal injuries due to blunt force trauma.”

Following the death, the boy’s mother, a kindergart­en helper, and her 39-year-old eatery worker boyfriend were remanded seven days to assist police investigat­ions.

The woman has a clean record.

But her boyfriend tested positive for marijuana and has an earlier record for a drug case.

This case has been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
