S. KISONA pre­sented her mother with the per­fect Mother’s Day gift when she won her maiden in­ter­na­tional ti­tle at the Vic­tor In­ter­na­tional Se­ries yes­ter­day.

The 19-year-old, hop­ing to make an im­pact in the na­tional se­nior squad, clawed back from a game down to up­set third seed Gre­go­ria Mariska Tun­jung of In­done­sia 10-21, 2116, 21-19 at the Sudirman Bad­minton Hall in Surabaya.

In March, Kisona had bagged the na­tional Un­der-21 ti­tle in Pe­nang when she downed na­tional team­mate M. Thi­naah in the fi­nal.

“I am very happy be­cause fi­nally I have an in­ter­na­tional ti­tle to show for,” said Kisona, who set­tled for the bronze medal at the 2013 Youth Olympic Games in Nan­jing, China.

“What makes my vic­tory sweeter is that I get to ded­i­cate this to my mother since it’s Mother’s Day. It is also an early gift for my par­ents (A. Sel­vadu­ray and S. Valar­mathi) as they cel­e­brate their wed­ding an­niver­sary on May 18 (Thurs­day).

In the women’s dou­bles, Soong Fie Cho-Tee Jing Yi won their first ti­tle as a pair after beat­ing sec­ond seeds Dian Fi­tri­ani-Nadya Me­lati of In­done­sia 21-16, 1621, 21-19. Fabian Peter
