PREPARATIO­NS for the New Straits Times (NST) C-Cycle Challenge, which will take place this Sunday, are on track. The event’s technical director, Muhd Sanusi Kamarul Azhar, said preparatio­ns were currently 85 per cent complete and he was confident that it would be completed by the day of the event.

“We have also secured 100 policemen to assist in the event. The preparatio­ns include medical assistance, race kits and other activities organised by the co-sponsors.

“About 1,200 people have registered as of Tuesday (yesterday),” he said.

The inaugural event will be held at Eco Grandeur in Puncak Alam.

It is organised in partnershi­p with Eco World Developmen­t Group Berhad, and co-sponsored by Bank Rakyat and Volkswagen.

The event is divided into two categories — the 160km race track and 35km fun ride.

Both categories will be flagged off from Eco Grandeur and will follow the Puncak Alam-Simpang Tiga Jeram-Kuala Selangor-Batu Arang-Bestari Jaya route.

The race category is divided into the Men’s Open (18 to 35 years), Women’s Open (15 years and above), Senior Men’s Open (36 years and above) and Team Cycling (open to all categories), with a participat­ion fee of RM160.

The Fun Ride category is divided into the Corporate Seniors Open (by invitation) and the Fun Ride Open (open to all participan­ts), with a participat­ion fee of RM50.

The event offers cash prizes of RM2,500, RM1,500 and RM1,000 for first, second and third place for the Men’s Open, Women’s Open and Senior Men’s Open categories.

Fourth to tenth place will receive RM800, RM600, RM500, RM400, RM300, RM200 and RM100 respective­ly.

Prizes offered in the Team Open are RM4,500 for the first place and RM3,500 (second), RM3,000 (third), RM2,000 (fourth) and RM1,000 (fifth).
