BURSA Malaysia gave up gains to end lower due to losses in key heavyweigh­ts.

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) closed half-a-point weaker to 1,778.15 from 1,778.65 previously. After opening 6.38 points better at 1,785.03, the index moved between 1,773.09 and 1,787.54 throughout the day.

On the broader market, losers outpaced gainers 497 to 412, with 408 counters flat, 444 untraded and 32 suspended.

Volume decreased to 3.51 billion units valued at RM3.84 billion from 3.74 billion units valued at RM2.99 billion previously.

Among heavyweigh­ts, Maybank fell three sen to RM9.35, TNB declined six sen to RM13.94 , while Petronas Chemicals was two sen weaker at RM7.25 As for actives, Iskandar Waterfront lost 15 sen to RM1.98, Netx Holdings eased one sen to 7.5 sen, and Priceworth Internatio­nal gained half-a-sen to 25 sen.
