TERENGGANU’S famous nasi dagang, in frozen form, is set to penetrate the European market next year. Menteri Besar Terengganu Incorporated Sdn Bhd (TI) chief executive officer Dr Wan Ahmad Rudirman Wan Razak said it was in negotiations with several companies in Europe, including in the United Kingdom, to market the dish produced by T-Kitchen.

“Our fast-food chain of Chicken Cottage in London will become one of the distribution centres for the frozen nasi dagang.

“We are optimistic of good demand as we plan to offer a variety of lauk (curry) like ikan tongkol, prawn, chicken and beef, to go with the nasi dagang,” said Rudirman.

He added that he was confident the nasi dagang would be well received as Chicken Cottage catered for halal customers.

The frozen nasi dagang was the brainchild of Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman, who came up with the idea during his visit to London last year.

“As such, TI is all out for promoting nasi dagang in Europe, especially as part of the ‘Visit Beautiful Terengganu 2017’ campaign.

“We have undertaken various promotional campaigns for nasi dagang over there, as it is a pride of Terengganu, being a traditional dish,” said Rudirman.

He said Razif had similarly promoted frozen nasi dagang during his visit to Melbourne and Perth in Australia recently

It resulted in a memorandum-ofunderstanding being signed between T-Kitchen and a distributor in Perth.

“As a start, we expect to sell 1,000 packs of frozen nasi dagang a month in Perth.

We are targeting to eventually sell 30,000 packs until end of this year,” said Rudirman, adding that Malaysian students in Australia would be recruited as sales agents, too.

He added that a new T-Kitchen factory in Chendering, Kuala Terengganu, would be able to meet the rising demand for frozen nasi dagang.

“As a start, we expect to sell 1,000 packs of frozen nasi dagang a month in Perth. We target to sell 30,000 packs until end of this year.
