In­spec­tor among 7 charged with graft

Seven men, in­clud­ing a po­lice in­spec­tor and two prison warders, were charged at the Ses­sions Court here yes­ter­day with cor­rup­tion.

In­spec­tor Kaviku­mar Peru­mal, 27, who has since been sacked from the force, faced two charges: so­lic­it­ing RM15,000 from Ma­hadi Mohd Nor at Lot 421, Kampung Bang­gol Ubi Kel­ing in Guar Periuk, Ran­tau Pan­jang, at 5pm on Nov 22, as an in­duce­ment not to take ac­tion against him for keep­ing a sus­pected stolen car, and so­lic­it­ing RM10,000 from Ma­hadi at 5.30pm on Nov 24 at the same place.

Judge Adli Ghalib set bail at RM3,000 with one surety for both charges pend­ing men­tion on July 3.

Chief In­spec­tor Mohd Zamri Ab­dul­lah of the Pengkalan Chepa prison was charged with ac­cept­ing RM3,000 from Mohd Fakhrul Akashah Mat at a KFC Res­tau­rant in Baung, Pengkalan Chepa, at 6pm on Dec 20 last year as an in­duce­ment for not plac­ing con­vict Wan Muham­mad Azlan Wan Ma­hamod at Blok In­saf af­ter he tested pos­i­tive for drugs.

Lance Cor­po­ral Dzul Azam Nani was charged with ac­cept­ing the money on be­half of Zamri at the same time and place.

Adli set bail at RM5,000 with one surety each and fixed men­tion of Zamri’s case on July 4 and Dzul Azam’s case on June 15.

Gen­eral Op­er­a­tions Force po­lice­man Muham­mad Har­ris Mohd Rafe, with the Eighth Bat­tal­ion, was charged with three counts of so­lic­it­ing and re­ceiv­ing bribe from Na-Emah Hama as an in­duce­ment for not tak­ing ac­tion against a ve­hi­cle, which was car­ry­ing 70 boxes of cook­ing oil and 200 trays of eggs.

He was charged with so­lic­it­ing RM10,000 from Na-Emah about 10am at Lorong Peruma­han Ran­tau Bakti on Aug 14, 2015, re­ceiv­ing RM5,000 at 6.30pm the same day and so­lic­it­ing RM3,000 from Na-Emah at 9.30pm at the same time and place.

The case will be men­tioned on June 19.

The fifth ac­cused, Syed Ah­mad Far­ris Al-Muha­jir, was charged with giv­ing a bribe of RM1,000 to Tanah Merah Hospi­tal’s ad­min­is­tra­tive as­sis­tant Mo­hamed Zaid Mo­hamed Zain as an in­duce­ment for not car­ry­ing out checks on the hospi­tal’s up­grade and ren­o­va­tion to the roof and roof struc­ture at the hospi­tal’s ad­min­is­tra­tive of­fice about 3.30pm on Sept 17, 2014.

The judge fixed June 20 for re­men­tion.

Con­trac­tor Ah­mad Hizwani Shafii, 35, and un­em­ployed Sharud­din Ab Ghani, 30, were jointly charged with at­tempt­ing to make a false claim (amount not stated) from the Kota Baru Mara Deputy As­sis­tant Di­rec­tor at the Ke­lan­tan Mara of­fice here on July 17, 2013.

Hizwani faced an­other charge of mak­ing a false claim to Tanah Merah Mara as­sis­tant di­rec­tor Mohd Azhan Is­mail be­tween 8am and 5pm on May 16, 2013.

Both cases will be men­tioned on June 18.

Muham­mad Har­ris, Syed Ah­mad, Ah­mad Hizwani and Sharud­din were all granted RM5,000 bail with one surety.

All the ac­cused pleaded not guilty.

Deputy Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tor Shahida Mus­limah Roslan ap­peared for the proseu­tion.
