Crowdfunding to get m-cycle for Saidin

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Teacher Ahmad Saidin Mohd Idris, who set social media abuzz for riding his motorcycle 130km daily to teach Orang Asli students at SK Lenjang in Pahang, may soon get a scrambler or dirt-bike, through crowdfunding.

The campaign, launched on Wednesday on generosity.com, aimed to collect RM10,000 in a month for a motorcycle.

Hazim Nordin, 39, said he started the campaign after reading a report on Saidin, who travels through muddy tracks to Orang Asli students.

“In the pictures I saw, I think he was using a small motorcycle to travel 130km every day.

“I believe the scrambler can make his journey tolerable,” he said.

Even if the campaign fell short of its target by its deadline of June 17, Hazim said the fund would be disbursed to the teacher as the legal beneficiary.

“I think people appreciate the effort put in by this teacher.

“Malaysians are talking about it.

“They empathise with him and they see his struggle.”

Hazim, who is a software developer in Cyberjaya, decided to help Netizens move beyond empathetic words to take action with the help of technology.

At press time, eight people have donated RM700.
