VIPs among 1,200 participan­ts in race

KUALA LUMPUR: The New Straits Times C-Cycle Challenge will see VIP participan­ts among the group of 1,200 set to hit the road on Sunday.

Among the figures are CIMB Group Holdings Bhd group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Aziz Tengku Abdul Aziz and Bank Muamalat chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Redza Shah Abdul Wahid.

GCH Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Pierre Olivier Deplanck will also compete in the race with his wife, Jules Deplanck.

Also ready to give their all on Sunday are National Heart Institute chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Azhari Yakub, Social Security Organisati­on (Socso) deputy chief executive (corporate) Datin Azlaily Abd Rahman, Socso board member Datuk Dr Sudin Haron and Red Berry group adviser and blogger Datuk Ahiruddin Attan.

The flagging-off ceremony at the start/finish podium will be attended by Eco World representa­tives consisting of board member Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye and president and chief executive officer Datuk Chang Khim Wah.

The New Straits Times Press will be represente­d by chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Jalil Hamid and NST group editor Yushaimi Yahaya, both of whom will also be present with Lee and Chang at the press conference following the flagging off.

Yushaimi, with NST executive editor Muzli Mohamad Zin and Eco Grandeur general manager Ho Kwee Hong, will attend the prize-giving ceremony after the race.

The race is split into a 160km Century Ride and a 35km Fun Ride, which will be flagged off from Eco Grandeur (sales gallery) in Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari.

The event starts on Sunday at 6.30am and ends at 4pm.

There are four categories under the 160km race — men’s open (18 to 35 years old), women’s open (15 years and above), senior men’s open (36 years and above) and team open (with a minimum of five cyclists).

The 35km Fun Ride is open to corporate senior management (by invitation) and all ages, with a RM50 fee.

The sales gallery is expected to play host to food trucks, sales booths, cycling activities for children and adults and a lucky draw.
