VIPs among 1,200 par­tic­i­pants in race

KUALA LUMPUR: The New Straits Times C-Cy­cle Chal­lenge will see VIP par­tic­i­pants among the group of 1,200 set to hit the road on Sun­day.

Among the fig­ures are CIMB Group Hold­ings Bhd group chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Aziz Tengku Ab­dul Aziz and Bank Mua­malat chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer Datuk Mohd Redza Shah Ab­dul Wahid.

GCH Sdn Bhd chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer Pierre Olivier De­planck will also com­pete in the race with his wife, Jules De­planck.

Also ready to give their all on Sun­day are Na­tional Heart In­sti­tute chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Azhari Yakub, So­cial Se­cu­rity Or­gan­i­sa­tion (Socso) deputy chief ex­ec­u­tive (cor­po­rate) Datin Azlaily Abd Rah­man, Socso board mem­ber Datuk Dr Sudin Haron and Red Berry group ad­viser and blog­ger Datuk Ahirud­din At­tan.

The flagging-off cer­e­mony at the start/fin­ish podium will be at­tended by Eco World rep­re­sen­ta­tives con­sist­ing of board mem­ber Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye and pres­i­dent and chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer Datuk Chang Khim Wah.

The New Straits Times Press will be rep­re­sented by chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer Datuk Ab­dul Jalil Hamid and NST group ed­i­tor Yushaimi Ya­haya, both of whom will also be present with Lee and Chang at the press con­fer­ence fol­low­ing the flagging off.

Yushaimi, with NST ex­ec­u­tive ed­i­tor Mu­zli Mo­hamad Zin and Eco Grandeur gen­eral man­ager Ho Kwee Hong, will at­tend the prize-giv­ing cer­e­mony af­ter the race.

The race is split into a 160km Cen­tury Ride and a 35km Fun Ride, which will be flagged off from Eco Grandeur (sales gallery) in Per­siaran Mokhtar Da­hari.

The event starts on Sun­day at 6.30am and ends at 4pm.

There are four cat­e­gories un­der the 160km race — men’s open (18 to 35 years old), women’s open (15 years and above), se­nior men’s open (36 years and above) and team open (with a min­i­mum of five cy­clists).

The 35km Fun Ride is open to cor­po­rate se­nior man­age­ment (by in­vi­ta­tion) and all ages, with a RM50 fee.

The sales gallery is ex­pected to play host to food trucks, sales booths, cy­cling ac­tiv­i­ties for chil­dren and adults and a lucky draw.
