TIEP will be ready for Games

-

WITH less than 14 weeks to the Sea Games, the upgrading work on the Terengganu International Endurance Park (TIEP) will be completed next month.

The venue for the equestrian endurance race in Pulau Bidong will be ready for riders gunning for the two gold medals at stake in the event on Aug 20.

The Sports Ministry’s development division secretary Norazli Indzam was satisfied with TIEP’s preparation following a two-day test event at the venue last weekend.

“Based on the organisation of the pre-Sea Games event, I’m confident that the event is in good hands as members of the local organising committee are widely experienced to handle the race.”

The pre-Sea games event saw a total of 72 riders from Indonesia, Singapore, Cambodia, New Zealand and Malaysia compete in three events — 40 kilometres, 80km and the STC Endurance Challenge.

The venue is currently at 98 per cent after undergoing major works such as upgrades of trail, stables and other facilities for riders and officials as well as special stables built to serve as quarantine facilities for horses brought in from abroad.

As for security and safety, some 300 personnel from the Royal Malaysian Police, Rela and Armed Forces will be assigned for duties at the venue.

Another pre-Sea Games event (dressage and showjumping) will be held at the 3Q Equestrian Club from May 30-31. Farah Azharie
