Deputy IGP: Arrests will boost morale of the force
KUALA LUMPUR: The recent spate of arrests of policemen allegedly working in cahoots with drug syndicates will boost the morale of the force.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said yesterday it was good for the force to detect any internal weakness.
“We will clean up the ranks and improve the force. The arrests should be seen as something that will improve the morale of the force as the vast majority of police personnel are honest. We must move on and be more motivated to serve the public better,” he said after a passing out ceremony for 604 police inspector cadets who completed their training course at the Police Training Centre here.
Noor Rashid was commenting on the arrests of policemen under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 for alleged involvement with drug syndicates.
The New Straits Times recently reported that the operation was triggered when investigators probing drug distribution rings picked up signs and gleaned information about “traitors” within the force who were on these syndicates’ payrolls.
Among those caught in the dragnet were officers with the ranks of deputy superintendent and inspector.
Noor Rashid said police had identified the right men to replace those arrested.
He said these replacement policemen were chosen because of their integrity, trustworthiness and knowledge, especially those assigned to sensitive positions.
