‘Berita Harian’ awards for 21 top students
KUALA LUMPUR: Twenty-one students from around the country received the Berita Harian Excellent Students Award (APCBH) 2016 yesterday.
Introduced in 2007, the awards were divided into three categories: Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR), Pentaksiran Tingkatan Tiga (PT3) and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).
Seven recipients in each category took home RM1,000, a trophy, certificates and additional prizes.
The awards were presented by New Straits Times Press chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Jalil Hamid.
Jalil said APCBH 2016 was to commemorate the students who took part in BH’s education clinics, seminars and workshops last year.
“APCBH recognises participants of those programmes who had achieved excellent results in their UPSR, PT3 and SPM examinations. It also aims at encouraging students to keep working hard in their studies and extracurricular activities.”
BH organised 223 seminars last year, benefiting 60,000 UPSR, PT3 and SPM candidates.
With more than 200 participants, APCBH 2016 was in line with the Education Ministry’s goal of producing high-achieving students. New categories were also introduced.
The BH Excellent School (Academic) award went to SM Agama Kuala Lumpur. The sports category award went to SM Bandar Banting.
SMK Datuk Abu Bakar Baginda took home the BH Excellent School (Extra-curricular) award.
Ilham Ismail from SK Taman Rinting 2 Pasir Gudang was named APCBH 2016’s creative educator.
He took home RM2,500.
The Bahasa Malaysia teacher said he had his Year Five and Six pupils reproduce what they had learned from BH’s Didik pullout.
“This award was my students’ efforts as much as mine.”
