School band to raise funds for Dutch com­pe­ti­tion

CYBERJAYA: Highly-praised Seri Pu­teri Sym­phonic Winds Or­ches­tra, bet­ter known as SP Winds, is set to rock the stage with Datuk Ja­mal Ab­dil­lah, Datuk Khati­jah Ibrahim and Amy Search at Shah Alam The­atre on July 14 and 15.

Themed “SP Winds Flour­ishes Concert 2017”, the two-night clas­si­cal pop-rock music ex­trav­a­ganza aims to raise funds for the school band, which will com­pete at the 18th World Music Contest 2017 in the Nether­lands on July 22.

SP Winds’ parental sup­port group pres­i­dent Wan Ja­malud­din Wan Ab­dul Ma­lik said RM700,000 was needed to fly the 60-piece or­ches­tra to the Dutch city of Kekrade for the com­pe­ti­tion.

“We’ve raised RM300,000 from a pre­vi­ous event.

“We need to top up the rest from the concert se­ries,” he said here yes­ter­day.

Pre­sent were prin­ci­pal Nor Aishah Ab­dul­lah and music direc­tor Has­nal Hashim. At press time, 400 tick­ets to the con­certs were pre-booked. The tick­ets will be sold on­line on www.myt­ from May 29.

“We have 1,200 seats left for the con­certs.

“We hope to sell all seats so that we can fi­nance the stu­dents’ trip to the Nether­lends,” said Wan Ja­malud­din.

Tick­ets are priced at RM99, RM149, RM199 and RM249.

Amy Search will per­form with the or­ches­tra on the first night, while Datuk Ja­mal Ab­dil­lah and Datuk Khati­jah Ibrahim will sing on the sec­ond night.
