School band to raise funds for Dutch competition
CYBERJAYA: Highly-praised Seri Puteri Symphonic Winds Orchestra, better known as SP Winds, is set to rock the stage with Datuk Jamal Abdillah, Datuk Khatijah Ibrahim and Amy Search at Shah Alam Theatre on July 14 and 15.
Themed “SP Winds Flourishes Concert 2017”, the two-night classical pop-rock music extravaganza aims to raise funds for the school band, which will compete at the 18th World Music Contest 2017 in the Netherlands on July 22.
SP Winds’ parental support group president Wan Jamaluddin Wan Abdul Malik said RM700,000 was needed to fly the 60-piece orchestra to the Dutch city of Kekrade for the competition.
“We’ve raised RM300,000 from a previous event.
“We need to top up the rest from the concert series,” he said here yesterday.
Present were principal Nor Aishah Abdullah and music director Hasnal Hashim. At press time, 400 tickets to the concerts were pre-booked. The tickets will be sold online on www.myticket.asia from May 29.
“We have 1,200 seats left for the concerts.
“We hope to sell all seats so that we can finance the students’ trip to the Netherlends,” said Wan Jamaluddin.
Tickets are priced at RM99, RM149, RM199 and RM249.
Amy Search will perform with the orchestra on the first night, while Datuk Jamal Abdillah and Datuk Khatijah Ibrahim will sing on the second night.
