Johor leg gets new name and logo

-

THE Johor leg of the FIA AsiaPacific Rally Championship (APRC) is now known as the International Rally of Johor.

Into its 13th year, the rally will be the fourth stop on the sixround championship which also takes place in New Zealand, Australia, China, Japan and India.

Organisers Wheel Sport Management yesterday unveiled the new name and logo for the event on Aug 11-13.

Round two of the Malaysian Rally Championship (MRC) will also be held at the same time.

Wheel Sport Management director Datuk Tengku Shaharin Abu Bakar Tengku Sulaiman expects at least 12 cars to compete in the APRC and 20 for the MRC.

“Johor has been part of the MRC since 2001 and has hosted a round of the APRC since 2005.

“In honour of Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris Iskandar Sultan Ibrahim, it will now be known as the International Rally of Johor and will have a new logo.

“The new name is to recognise the strong roots of rallying and Johor’s desire to become a motorsport hub in the Southeast Asian region.

“There will be live streaming and updates on social media to promote the sport,” said Tengku Shaharin.

Defending APRC champion Gaurav Gill from India will compete in his Skoda while World Rally Championships (WRC) driver Jari Ketomaa of Finland and Robert Blomberg will race with Sweden-based team Mitsubishi. Fabian Peter
