Fast, sharp shooter

Sony Xperia XZs

An exciting feature of the Xperia XZs is that it can record in 960 frames per second, meaning that the smartphone can record super slow motion videos, four times slower than other smartphones.

PERFORMANCE AND SOFTWARE

On the inside, there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB RAM, working hard to bring a premium experience, with fast Internet browsing, gaming and multitasking.

For average usage, the 2,900 mAh battery is quite decent, considering it lasted a day when I was using it.

The inbuilt Smart Stamina mode reduces battery consumption and optimises your charging to make sure your battery doesn’t run out before the end of the day.

But for avid users who do a lot of recording or playing games, it may drain faster, but recharging is not a problem, thanks to the Quick Charge technology where you can have full battery in about two hours.

There is one problem, though, the heat issue is annoying. While the device doesn’t become unbearably hot, the warmth at the back is noticeable. The same problem exists while using the camera for long duration as well, which results in the shutting down of the app.

For storage, the Xperia XZs comes with

64GB of memory, which can be topped up further with the use of a microSD card of up to 256GB.

The Xperia XZs runs the new Android 7.1.1 (Nougat) and comes with Xperia Actions. Xperia Actions learn how you use your phone and then offers to manage your preferences automatically for you.

It’s very useful as the phone pays attention to the little things you do by learning and adapting to your preferences and environments every day and adjusts its settings accordingly, like turning on silent

mode when you arrive at work.

VERDICT

The Xperia XZs can definitely differentiate itself, thanks to its unique design and camera system. I certainly like the super slow-motion capabilities. The Predictive Capture is useful in some situations, but I’m not sure if that alone would warrant its purchase.

At RM2,899, the phone is available in Ice Blue, Black, Warm Silver.

Verdict: 3.5/5
