Cop injured in Puchong chase comes out of coma
A police lance corporal, who sustained severe injuries when he fell off his motorcycle during a high-speed chase in Puchong on Monday, has come out of coma.
Lance Corporal Mohd Ridzuan Harun is reported to be in stable condition, but is too weak to speak. He can, however, move his fingers, a hint that he is aware of his surroundings.
Ridzuan’s colleagues, mostly attached to the Bukit Puchong police station as he is, heaved a sigh of relief upon learning the good news.
Most of them waited at the Intensive Care Unit waiting area in the Serdang Hospital yesterday.
There was a stream of visitors and the waiting area was filled with men clad in blue uniforms. There were also plain- clothed officers.
An officer, who wanted to be known only as Nizam, came with six other officers to visit Ridzuan about 4pm.
“We were worried about his condition. We hope he’s recuperating well and can work again soon.”
Some of Ridzuan’s colleagues were overwhelmed with emotion and could not speak to the New
Straits Times about their visit, after seeing a bedridden Ridzuan.
His wife, too, declined to be interviewed.
Subang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Azlin Sadari said doctors were monitoring Ridzuan.
Azlin said he was told that checks revealed that Ridzuan suffered a fractured skull and sustained internal bleeding. It is unknown whether the fall was an accident or caused by the man Ridzuan was chasing.
He said it was only a matter of time before the man Ridzuan was chasing was caught.
On Monday, Ridzuan and his partner, who was on another motorcycle, came across a suspicious motorcyclist in Puchong.
When they approached the man, he sped off. Ridzuan was the first to react and gave chase.
Some 5km away, the partner came across Ridzuan sprawled on the road, next to his motorcycle.
The man they had been chasing had abandoned his machine and was believed to have escaped on foot.
Azlin had said that the motorcycle that the man used had not been reported stolen.
