Woman taken to police station by ‘kidnappers’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: It had all the hallmarks of a classic kidnapping video.

On a closed-circuit television camera footage, a woman was seen attempting to flee her pursuer, but was caught and bundled into a car.

The video went viral on Facebook yesterday.

Recorded on Tuesday (May 30) at 10.21pm, it showed a row of parked cars outside what is believed to be the Regalia Suites and Residences in Jalan Sultan Ismail.

It showed a woman, allegedly a staff of the apartment, being approached by several men, who took her to a white car.

After peering inside the car, the woman appeared to struggle and tried to run. But, she was captured by one of the men.

Despite her protests, she was bundled into the vehicle.

The video was one-minuteand-20-seconds long.

Many Netizens urged police to quickly investigate the “abduction”.

But, police have since clarified that the incident was not a kidnapping.

The woman, it turned out, had been accused by her previous employers of stealing.

The men who “abducted” her were her former employers, who took her straight to the Gombak police station.

The woman, 23, is an Indonesian and had worked as a maid at a residence in Gombak. Her former employers had accused her of theft.

City police Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Rusdi Mohd Isa confirmed this, adding that the woman was unharmed and was in Gombak police custody.
