Myvi going against traffic stuns Netizens

-

JOHOR BARU: Road users were left in shock when they saw a Perodua Myvi going against the flow of traffic along the North-South Expressway near the Kulai exit yesterday.

Police are looking for the driver. They will check with the registered owner of the vehicle, a man in his 50s, to see if he was behind the wheel at the time or knows who was.

The Myvi driver went against the flow of traffic on the southbound lane of the NSE. He did not cause any crashes.

A video clip of the incident, which was taken at 8.15am by someone in a vehicle on the opposite side of the NSE, has gone viral on the Internet.

The 86-second clip showed the Myvi going at high speed and narrowly missing several vehicles as it made its way on the right-most lane of the expressway.

Facebook users fumed over the incident. It is reminiscent of the March 14 tragedy when a 26-yearold driver was killed when a 19year-old woman drove her car at high speed against the flow of traffic along the NSE after the Sungai Dua toll plaza in Penang.

Foo Wee Chin questioned the sanity of the driver in the Kulai incident, saying the driver had put other motorists at risk.

“Gilakah driver tu? Kenapa masih ada orang gila bawa kereta lagi?” (Is the driver insane? Why are lunatics still allowed to drive?)

Facebook user Sunthari Thara said “OMG (Oh my god). So scary to see this.”

Another user, Noraini Salleh, said she was worried that such incidents could happen more often.

She said the incident showed that some people were “manic and suicidal” and did not care if they killed other people.

Johor Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department deputy chief Superintendent Ibrahim Mat Som said the driver’s identity could not be determined from the clip.

“From the registration number, we traced the car to a man in his 50s whose last address was in Pahang.”

Plus Malaysia Bhd chief executive officer Mohammad Fuad Khusairi said the highway concessionaire despatched Plusronda teams to look for the vehicle after it received reports from motorists.

However, he said, the patrol teams could not find the vehicle.

Fuad said to ensure the safety of road users, the highway concessionaire would work closely with the police and Road Transport Department’s enforcement division to ensure such incidents did not happen again.
