NO CONTRAFLOW IN DOWNPOUR

-

A MOTORIST who plies Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, has asked whether the contraflow lane from the Jalan Gasing flyover to Jalan Klang Lama is in effect.

Hasni told Actionline that on Tuesday, the contraflow was not in operation.

“I contacted the Petaling Jaya City Council hotline, but was informed that the contraflow was called off due to rainy weather.

“Again, on Wednesday, the contraflow was not in effect. This time, they told me that it will not be available during the school holidays.

“Banners informing motorists of the contraflow are there. I would like to know whether it is in effect.”

ACTIONLINE:

Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), when contacted, said the contraflow in Jalan Gasing was in place.

“Many road users may be unaware that the contraflow depends on weather conditions. If there is a downpour by 4pm, it will be called off.

“The decision was made after the council found that it was unsafe to have its personnel laying traffic cones on the road during a downpour.”

He said last year, one MBPJ employee had an accident while on duty.

“The contraflow will also not be available during school holidays.

“But, it will resume on weekdays, from 5pm to 7pm, after the school holidays end.”

The contraflow has been in place since April 17 and is scheduled to operate until the end of the year.
