THE weather was gloomy, just like the mood of Ahmad Faqih Nazmi Ahmad Faizal when he visited the graves of his family at the Kampung Jambu Muslim cemetery near here on Tuesday.

“Ibu (mother), ayah (father), Aimi and Im... Nami (as he is called) is here. I miss all of you,” said Faqih Nazmi, 6.

It has been his weekly routine for the past eight months after his parents, Ahmad Faizal Abdul Rahim, 33, and Nur Fazilah Mat Zani, 33, sister, Nur Aimi Nadirah, 8, and brother, Fakhri Naim, 3, died in an accident involving five vehicles at Km405 of the North-South Expressway at 1.30am on Aug 30 last year.

The shy boy seemed unsure when told that people would be following him to the cemetery. Later, he was heard chatting softly with his grandmother, Faridah Ahmad, 55.

“Ibu, today (Tuesday) is the fourth day I am fasting, just like I did when you were around,” he said, teary-eyed after reciting surah Al-Fatihah and prayers.

It seemed like he had a lot to tell his mother, but only tears rolled down his cheeks as he stared at the tombstones.

“I was close to ibu as we did things together when she took care of our house. If ayah was alive, he would drive us back to fast with Tok, Tok Wan, Mak Mok and Mak Cucu,” said Faqih Nazmi.

He lives with his grandparents Mat Zani Ramli, 54, and Faridah, as well as his aunts Nooroakmal Mat Zani, 25, and Noor Farina, 21, in Taman Kaya here.

His cousins, Muhammad Iqwan Firdaus Mohd Rizal, 7, and Nur Umairah Mohd Rizal, 4, visited the cemetery with him.

Nooroakmal said Faqih Nazmi would share his thoughts with her at night.

She said there were times when he would recite a doa (prayer) and cry as he missed his parents and siblings.

“When he really misses his family, we would hear him call their names in his sleep. He shares his dreams about his family with me, and I will ask him to recite AlFatihah for them,” said Faridah.

“I really love ibu’s curry,” said Faqih Nazmi, when asked about his favourite dish.

“Ayah was busy as a marine policeman in Melaka. Whenever he had days off, he would take us jalan-jalan (sightseeing). We went to Perak, Penang, Melaka, Johor and even Indonesia,” the preschooler said, smiling at the memories.

“I hope that ibu, ayah, Aimi and Im are happy in heaven. I promise to do good deeds so I, too, can be with them.”
