Wanita MCA launches election machinery, training programme

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita MCA yesterday launched its election machinery ahead of the 14th General Election, which could be held as early as this year.

The MCA wing also launched the Jalinan Rakyat Plus (JR Plus) training programme at its headquarters here in preparation for GE14.

Its chief, Datuk Heng Seai Kie, said the programme aimed to unite Wanita MCA leaders at the central committee and state levels.

She said the preliminary phase of the programme would involve 200 Wanita MCA leaders from the Federal Territories, Kelantan and Terengganu.

“Through this training, we hope to foster closer cooperation among members, as well as Barisan Nasional component parties.

“After this, we will conduct the training in other states, too,” she said at Wisma MCA here yesterday.

She said the training would involve MCA Youth and Beliawanis members.

In April, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak launched JR Plus, which functions as a joint platform for Umno and BN election machineries to face GE14. It aims to harness the election machineries of Wanita Umno, Umno Youth and Puteri Umno, as well as those of the BN component parties and

their wings. Heng said a special committee had been set up to oversee Wanita MCA’s campaign and to ensure its smooth coordination.

“I will be chairing the committee together with Wanita MCA National deputy chairwoman Datuk Seri Lee Pit Chern, four national vice-chairwomen and all state chairwomen.”

She said the wing would conduct assessments in the parliamentary and state constituencies nationwide to look into people-related issues.

“By doing so, we can collect feedback from the Chinese community and improve ourselves to face GE14.”

On a related matter, Heng said Wanita MCA had submitted a list of 25 potential election candidates to the top leadership.

“We have submitted names for MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai’s consideration,” she said, adding that the names were proposed by Wanita MCA state chairwomen.
