Permim to help 20 poor families
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Indian Muslim Association (Permim) has identified 20 poor families here and in Selangor, who need the state’s assistance.
Permim secretary-general Shaik Faridhudheen Anverdeen said the association had found them through its Jejak Asnaf programme, which aimed to help the needy, particularly during Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
“I am confident that we can better assess their condition so that we can help them to get welfare aid from the state.”
He said the families could be registered with the state authorities that handled the distribution of tithes.
Under Jejak Asnaf, he said, the families, which were mostly Indian-Muslims, would be provided with groceries and financial aid.
Recipient Nor Haszni Mohd Khir, 49, said she lost her husband to cancer a year ago, and had to raise their five children on her own.
She said the aid would ease her responsibility as a single mother.
“Since my husband died, I have had to be resilient for my family. Who else will provide for them?
“I am grateful to have met an organisation that takes care of single mothers and is trying to help us to be more independent,” said Nor Haszni, a security guard.
Marga Jabin Basha, 47, said she was grateful to receive help from Permim.
Marga suffers from diabetes, high-blood pressure and kidney failure. She became half-blind seven years ago due to the illnesses.
She needs regular dialysis treatments and constant care from her husband, preventing him from holding a permanent job.
