TM opens internal probe against 2 under remand
KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia (TM) has opened an internal investigation against two of its employees implicated in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) probe into the abuse of the government-linkedcompany’s cooperative.
TM yesterday said of the four members of the cooperative’s board members being probed, only two were still with the company.
It is learnt that the two are Datuk Ahmad Shamsuddin Ramli, 50, who is the head of human resource in one of TM’s departments, and Syed Sadair Syed Omar, 58, who is an assistant marketing officer.
The other two Datuks in MACC custody had retired from TM.
“With regard to the status of their employment in light of these allegations, it is pending an internal investigation,” TM said.
TM also explained that Koperasi Telekom Malaysia Berhad (Kota Mas) was a cooperative whose membership comprised current and former TM employees nationwide, and was run by its own appointed management.
“We wish to emphasise that Kota Mas is a non-TM entity and is not part of the TM Group. TM is not involved in the management of the business and operations of Kota Mas.”
It added that TM had a zero tolerance policy for any form of illegal activities, including corruption and abuse of position.
“We will take appropriate internal action in the event that any of our employees are found guilty, or proven to be involved.
“TM also fully supports MACC’s action to combat and eradicate corruption nationwide.”
Kota Mas members expressed their disappointment over their cooperative’s imbroglio.
The chairman’s post held by Datuk Ismail Nordin has now been assumed by an interim administrator, Datuk Yusof Samsudin, from Cooperatives Commission of Malaysia.
