AN innovative young entrepreneur, who made waves on social media a few months ago for his uniquely-shaped pastries, is back with new mouth-watering delights.

Ariff Fikhri Abdul Rashid’s famous steamed buns, which are shaped like mushrooms and roasted chicken, had led to a steady stream of patrons visiting his stall in Tanah Putih Baru here.

Following his success, the 31year-old baker recently introduced the “Brazilian chili steamed bun” for spicy food lovers and chocolate steamed bun for those with a sweet tooth.

Ariff said the idea for the business came from his partner, Iro Ismail, 38.

“Iro told me his uncle needed someone to promote his mushroom steamed bun,” he told the New Straits Times.

Ariff, who was looking for a job then, said he jumped on the idea to start a business with Iro.

With a capital of RM3,000, he began selling 500 steamed buns.

He said to his surprise, the buns sold out on the first day.

“I drive to Puchong, Selangor, often to get frozen ingredients.”

He said many food vendors tried to copy his recipe, but he was confident his steamed buns were a cut above the rest.

“The buns must be steamed with a specific amount of water to ensure they’re well cooked and fluffy,” Ariff said, adding that using proper steamers was vital in ensuring quality.

Over the past year, Ariff and his partner have expanded the business nationwide.

Ariff said he was grateful that his hard work had paid off.

“We plan to expand the business to Singapore and maybe Indonesia after Hari Raya Aidilfitri.”
