Grandma’s wish to wear matching baju kurung dashed

-

KANGAR: Che Lebar Ahmad had been planning to buy a baju kurung for her beloved granddaughter Nur Anis Zamilia, 25, so that they would cut a matchingcolour outfit appearance during Hari Raya.

But this was not to be when the 75-year-old grandmother suddenly collapsed and died at the Simpang Empat market here at 10.15am yesterday.

Anis broke down when she was shown the new baju kurung and robe found on her grandmother.

She said Che Lebar was chatty as usual while they were riding a motorcycle from their home in Kampung Pauh here to the market.

Usually, she would accompany her grandmother to the market but she could not do so on that day as she was rushing to work.

According to Anis, her grandmother chose a brown printed fabric for their new baju kurung outfits.

“She told me she ate a plate of glutinous rice with harumanis mango after breaking fast yesterday (Tuesday).

“I can still see her big smile and my 2-year-old son as she got off the motorcycle before heading to the market. It never occurred to me that it would be the last time I saw her.

“She would always light up the atmosphere with her jovial behaviour. Without her, it would be a quiet Raya this year,” she said in between sobs.

Anis learnt of her grandmother’s death, believed to be caused by hypertension, from her father who was at the market to fetch Che Lebar.
