Chong Wei surprised with Lifetime Achievement award

-

LEE Chong Wei scooped three awards at the 2016 Penang State Sports Awards recently.

He won the Lifetime Achievement, Sportsman and Anugerah Perdana Piala TYT Yang DiPertua Negeri Pulau Pinang awards.

Chong Wei was given the special lifetime achievement award for his ability to attract spectators and also for being hailed as “the master of everything” by fans for his all round skills.

Nicol David won the Sportswoman’s award but lost out to Chong Wei for the Anugerah Perdana Piala TYT Yang DiPertua Negeri Pulau Pinang Award.

Chong Wei said he had not expected to be honoured with the life-time achievement award especially with him still actively playing the game.

“I am honoured to receive this awesome lifetime achievement award and it is even more surprising that it was given to me as I am still at the peak of my career,” said the World No 1 at the awards ceremony in George Town.

“I will treat this as an honour from my state and all Penangites as a motivation to perform better.

“I am looking forward to play my level best at the World Championships (in August).”
