Pakatan Harapan to announce leadership line-up next week

-

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan is expected to announce its top leadership line-up next week, amid differing views on who should lead the pact’s charge in the next general election.

This came after Pakatan Harapan dismissed a news report listing the coalition’s top brass, which was purportedly proposed by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).

The report said the proposed line-up was leaked by a source in PPBM.

It listed jailed former opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the coalition’s adviser, with former prime minister and PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as its chairman.

PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and PPBM president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin were named Pakatan Harapan deputy chairman and president, respectively.

PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali was listed as the coalition’s deputy president, while DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) president Mohamad Sabu were listed as vice-presidents.

Muhyiddin, when met after a Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting here yesterday, kept mum on the supposed leak.

“We have discussed (the leadership issue). You will have to ask her, the (presidential council) chairperson (Dr Wan Azizah).

“I am not the chairperson. I don’t have the right to give a press statement. I am just a member. I would like to talk to you, but I always abide by the rules.”

Pakatan Harapan chief secretary Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said Muhyiddin had, during the presidential council meeting, denied that the list came from PPBM.

Political analyst Professor Sivamurugan Pandian said the delayed announcement proved that the opposition pact could not reach a consensus on its lineup.
