DRIVEN BY RENEWABLE RESOURCES

Malaysia to hold forums, discussions and exhibitions

-

MALAYSIA will showcase its aspiration to become an economy driven by renewable sources at the world’s largest gathering of energy experts and decision makers.

The country, led by the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry, will be holding a series of forums, discussions and exhibition at Expo 2017, themed “Future Energy”, in Kazakhstan’s capital from today until Sept 30.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili, will be launching the Malaysia Pavilion, which will be the country’s hub in the exhibition, which includes 115 countries.

Ongkili said the expo would provide an opportunity to prove to the world that green energy, and its technology and growth laid in what nature had to offer, a direction on which Malaysia had began charting its path.

“We have become an emerging market model. We need to use that leadership to prove that an emerging market can drive positive change towards future energy.”

The Malaysia Pavilion, themed “Powering Green Growth”, will have business matching sessions and talks based on weekly themes that reflect Malaysia’s strength in fields of green energy and technology, and the economy.

In the next three months, there will be presentations on technology, solutions, innovations and best practices at the pavilion, located between the China and India Pavilions here.

To push its campaign on social media platforms, the ministry kicked off a global conversation on the future of green energy by posing a question #Wattif to seek inspiration from the world community, and its hashtag, #MyButterflyEffect, to call for action.

The campaign is available online at greenfuturemalaysia.com and @Expo17Malaysia on Facebook.

Malaysia is aiming to secure RM1 billion in trade and investments at the expo, where 150 private and public sectors business players are expected to take part.

Other ministries involved are the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry; International Trade and Industry Ministry; Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry; and, Tourism and Culture Ministry.
