Shukor named Big Tree chief operating officer

KUALA LUMPUR: Media Prima Bhd, Malaysia’s largest integrated media group, has announced that Jeff Cheah will end his tenure as Big Tree Outdoor Sdn Bhd (BTO) chief executive officer (CEO) beginning July 14.

After 17 years with the group, Cheah will take over as group CEO of a regional media company based in Singapore.

Media Prima is promoting BTO general manager for operations Mohamad Shukor Ariffin to chief operating officer effective July 1.

Shukor will be responsibl­e for BTO’s overall operations.

He will focus on strengthen­ing the company’s core business while pursuing new opportunit­ies in line with Media Prima’s long-term growth strategies.

Shukor will report to Media Prima group managing director Datuk Seri Amrin Awaluddin.

“Cheah has contribute­d immensely and played a pivotal role in establishi­ng BTO as the leading Out-of-Home (OOH) company in Malaysia,” said Amrin in a statement.

“He provided strong leadership and ensured Big Tree Outdoor remained at the forefront in the implementa­tion of the latest technologi­es in OOH. We wish him well in his future endeavours,” he said.

Cheah said he was honoured to have been entrusted to lead BTO and expressed his thanks to the board, colleagues and staff who had supported him throughout his tenure.

He said Shukor was the natural choice to continue BTO’s momentum.

“Shukor has done an incredible job over the past 14 years with BTO and possesses deep familiarit­y with the operations and commercial aspects of the OOH business. I am confident that he will bring new levels of success to BTO,” said Cheah.

BTO chairman Raja Datuk Zaharaton Raja Zainal Abidin said: “Shukor’s appointmen­t will further strengthen BTO’s position as the leading OOH service provider in Malaysia. It also mirrors our strong succession plan that enables a smooth handover of responsibi­lities and operations.”
