State assembly may appeal ruling on Pujut seat

-

KUCHING: The state legislative assembly may appeal against the High Court decision on the status of the Pujut seat.

Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Abang Openg said the state assembly would consult state Attorney-General (A-G) Talat Mahmood Abdul Rashid before deciding next month.

“The state government respects the decision by the High Court on the Pujut seat.

“I think the state assembly will appeal against the decision. However, it is better for it to announce its next course of action after meeting the state A-G,” he said after the Satok “Ihya Ramadan” programme at SK Rakyat here yesterday.

On Friday, the High Court restored DAP’s Dr Ting Tiong Choon as Pujut assemblyman.

Dr Ting, 52, was sacked by the State Legislative Assembly last month following a ministerial motion moved by state International Trade and E-Commerce Minister Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh.

On the low-cost carrier terminal in Sarawak, Abang Johari said the state government was negotiating with AirAsia.

“We are in discussion and identifying a site near Kuching International Airport. I cannot disclose too much now. I may do so after everything has being finalised.”
