Ministry studying UPNM’s academic system for review, says Hisham

KUALA LUMPUR: The Defence Ministry is studying the need to revamp Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia’s (UPNM) academic system following the fatal bullying of naval cadet Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, said the ministry viewed the matter seriously and UPNM could not absolve itself from responsibility in the case.

“It cannot wash its hands of this case.

“If there is a need to, we will review the system,” he said after attending a meeting with Umno division secretaries here yesterday.

Hishammuddin, however, did not divulge details of the review it was considering.

“We will discuss (the matter). They will propose suggestions to me as defence minister and I will inform the public once it is decided upon,” he said.
