Improving early education system
PADANG TERAP: The National Early Education Committee has been tasked with carrying out an in-depth study to improve the country’s early education system.
Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the committee, comprising education experts from several ministries and spearheaded by the Education Ministry, would carry out a comprehensive study to improve the curriculum and co-curriculum in the early education system.
The committee consist of experts from the Rural and Regional Development Ministry; National Unity and Integration Department; Malaysian Islamic Development Department; Women, Family and Community Development Ministry; and Permata Negara.
He said the study would look into suggestions to make it compulsory for teachers in early education institutions to have at least a diploma qualification.
“The systematic and comprehensive study is part of the government’s plan to improve the early education system.
“We have many taska and tadika (kindergartens) under the ministry and government agencies, so we need to improve the academic (curriculum) and cocurriculum aspects under one platform to ensure an excellent early education system for children aged below 6.”
Mahdzir, who is also Padang Terap member of parliament, said this after presenting cash aid and scholarships from the Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (Risda) to Padang Terap constituents at SMK Kuala Nerang yesterday.
At yesterday’s event, 48 children of small rubber holders received scholarships worth RM500 each. Present was Padang Terap Risda officer Jasni Abdul Aziz.
