ADIRECTOR with the Putrajaya Community Development Department (Kemas) yesterday claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to two counts of graft involving RM159,000.

Mohd Adnan Md Daud, 54, from Shah Alam, was alleged to have accepted a total of RM159,053 as an inducement to appoint six companies to supply food to Kemas kindergartens while serving as Kemas director in Selangor.

The offences were allegedly committed at the Malayan Banking Bhd branch in Jalan Sultan Badlishah here on Jan 7, 2015 and Dec 14 last year.

Adnan was alleged to have accepted RM73,000 from Sah Nizam as an inducement to appoint two companies — Syarikat Perniagaan Naluri Pertama and Syarikat Alpha Elit Resources — owned and managed by Sah, to supply milk and chocolate malt powder to Kemas kindergartens on Dec 14, last year.

Adnan was also alleged to have accepted RM86,053 from Sah as an inducement to appoint five companies owned and managed by Sah to supply biscuits, powdered milk and cereals to kindergartens under the department on Jan 7, 2015.

The five companies are Syarikat Perniagaan Naluri Pertama, One Blue Diamond Enterprise, Syarikat Malbery Enterprise, Golden North Enterprise and LD Dinamik Enterprise.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission deputy public prosecutor A. Hafiizh Abu Bakar applied for RM100,000 bail for the accused.

Lawyer Abdul Hadi Ahmad pleaded for a lower bail, saying that Adnan had to support eight children, five of whom were still in school, while the youngest was only 55 days old.

He said although Adnan earned a salary of RM9,800 per month, his account was frozen five months ago.

Judge Azman Abu Hassan set bail at RM80,000 with one surety for both charges and fixed July 31 for mention. Adnan later raised the bail.
