Cops shoot dead two suspected robbers

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Two suspected robbers were shot dead after a high-speed chase with the police in Bandar Baru Sentul here yesterday.

The men were in two cars when they were spotted by a police team at 3.30am.

As the team approached the two vehicles, both sped off in different directions, prompting a chase.

Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said both men, aged 26 and 46, opened fire at the police team.

Mazlan said guns, ski masks, copper wires believed to have been stolen from construction sites, tools and gloves were among the items recovered from the two cars used by the suspects.

He said the policemen were patrolling under Op Rantau: Tapak Project when they came across the two men behaving suspiciously.

Mazlan said checks on the two men showed they were involved in previous cases of robbery, drug abuse, extortion and possession of dangerous weapons.
