Hsien Loong pays tribute to dads in FB post

-

SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong yesterday paid tribute to fathers by saying that in their own special ways, they impart advice to help children make life decisions and learn values that steer them on the right path.

“For many of us, our fathers are our first heroes and important role models,” said the eldest son of founding father Lee Kuan Yew.

These words were part of his Fathers Day message in his latest Facebook posting, which was accompanied with a photo of a father sitting on a chair, and his son hugging him from behind.

From the posting, Lee who had just returned from a holiday, seemed to maintain his “cool” even though he was in the midst of a public feud with his siblings Wei Ling and Hsien Yang.

The family dispute had “unexpectedly” emerged via social media at 2am on June 14, which was focused on their father’s will involving the home at Oxley Road.

In his earlier posting, Hsien Loong said he would be “back to work today”.

“Just arrived home. Read many of your comments and glad to have met some Singaporeans overseas, too,” he wrote.

Throughout his vacation, Hsien Loong had made only two postings over the feud.

Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean had reportedly said the government had the responsibility to consider any property with heritage and historical significance, and this applied to Lee Hsien Yang

Kuan Yew’s home.

In line with cabinet secretary Tan Kee Yon’s statement on June 14, Teo noted that Hsien Loong had recused himself from all government decisions concerning the house. Bernama
