‘Meetings proof of good Umno-Pas ties’
KOTA BARU: The recent meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob is testament to the good cooperation between Umno and Pas.
Kelantan Umno liaison comittee chief Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said the collaboration was not a secret as it was clear to the public.
However, he said, the relationship between Umno and Pas was for the benefit of the people and not driven by political interests.
“Several recent meetings, including the discussion between the deputy prime minister and menteri besar, show that the cooperation between Umno and Pas is good,” he said during a dialogue session here on Tuesday night.
Earlier this month, Zahid, who is also home minister, held a meeting with Ahmad at the latter’s office at the Kota Darul Naim complex here.
It was reported that the two leaders discussed three main issues, including those relating border security and drug-related problems.
On the state Umno’s preparation for the 14th General Election, Mustapa, who is also Jeli member of parliament, said the party was hoping for a “miracle” to win the Pas-held state.
“Our machinery is ready to face any challenges, including threeor four-cornered fights. Umno hopes the people will give us a chance to serve them.”
