‘Probe ongoing to find cop who shared pictures’

IPOH: Police are investigat­ing who among its personnel circulated pictures of a murder victim, which had gone viral on social media since June 6.

Ipoh police chief Assistant Commission­er Sum Chang Keong said the picture of the victim should not have been shared on social media and action would be taken against the culprit.

“The picture showed the victim’s severed head after he was attacked. We are investigat­ing our officers and once, we find the culprit, the person will be referred to the Integrity and Standard Compliance Department for further action,” he said here yesterday.

Sum said to date, police had detained eight people, aged between 20 and 30, in connection with the murder case.

“We believe we can solve the case with the arrest of these eight men. However, the investigat­ion is ongoing,” he said.

It was reported that S. Ganasan, a 30-yearold unemployed man was found dead by the roadside with multiple slash wounds to the head and body at Km6 of Jalan Ipoh-Lumut on June 6. The victim, from Buntong here, was slashed on the neck, head, hands and legs.

A post-mortem revealed that he died due to excessive bleeding from his neck wounds.

Checks on the victim revealed he had five criminal records, including two drug-related offences.
