Train stops were not announced

A SENIOR citizen recounted his unpleasant experience to Actionline when he took a ride on the light rail transit (LRT) recently.

Bakianathan said on June 8, he took a ride on the LRT Kelana Jaya Line from Taman Paramount to KL Sentral to attend to some errands.

He said he was inconvenienced during the journey as announcements were not broadcast to inform commuters of the train’s stops.

He said this caused much difficulty for him, as an elderly person, and fellow commuters.

“To make things worse, the train was packed with commuters on that day.

“My eyesight is not so good these days.

“So, it was really an effort for me to check the stations the train was stopping at.

“I had to strain my neck to get a glimpse of the signage bearing the stop’s name,” he said, adding that the crowded train aggravated his dilemma.

“It used to be comfortable commuting via LRT as clear announcements were made of the train’s stops.

“However, the recent experience showed that it was not the

case any more,” he lamented.

Prasarana Malaysia Bhd Group communications and strategic marketing head Lim Jin Aun said the LRT trains’ communication systems were being upgraded.

She said Bakianathan boarded the older two-car trains of the LRT system.

“The older two-car trains are not equipped to announce the destination of the next LRT station for travels between the Lembah Subang and Putra Heights LRT stations.

“We are progressively upgrading the communications systems of the remaining nine sets of the two-car trains on the LRT Kelana Jaya Line.”

Lim said she hoped customers would have a more pleasant travel experience once the communications systems on board the older two-car trains were upgraded.

“We wish to apologise to the feedback provider for any inconvenience caused, and wish to seek his patience and understanding as we work towards improving our service.”
