Red Devils and Blues keeping an eye on unhappy Lewandowski

-

LONDON: Manchester United will rival Chelsea for Robert Lewandowski should Bayern Munich agree to sell this summer.

The 28-year-old is understood to be unhappy at Bayern with his agent Maik Barthel claiming that the management and teammates didn’t support him enough towards the end of the season when he wanted to finish as top scorer and played through the pain barrier with an injured shoulder.

Lewandowski extended his contract last December to 2021 and the likelihood of Bayern selling the prolific Poland international has always been considered remote.

However, Barthel’s comments have alerted clubs to enquire about the chances for this summer.

Real Madrid have long been recognised as favourites for the Poland international but it is understood he would be keen on testing himself in the English Premier League and living in London does appeal.

Bayern have batted away huge bids for their players before with United offering £86 million (RM486 million) for Thomas Muller two years ago but much will depend on how strongly Lewandowski wants to push for a move.

With Monaco pricing 18-yearold Kylian Mbappe at £115 million, a price of £120 million would not be surprising should Bayern relent.

Meanwhile, Swansea City will sign Tammy Abraham on seasonlong loan from Chelsea this week after beating Newcastle in the race to land the striker.

The paperwork on the deal is not yet finalised, but Swansea are confident there will be no hitches in their recruitment of a talent who scored 23 goals on loan at Bristol City last season.

The 19-year-old, who is currently with the England Under 21 side at the European Championships, is familiar with Paul Clement owing to the Swansea’s managers time coaching across the youth and senior teams at Chelsea.

His arrival will tick one of two major boxes for Swansea this summer, with the club prioritising a striker and central midfielder.

In terms of outgoings, record £15 million signing Borja Baston has been told he can leave the club on loan after flopping in his first season at the Liberty Stadium, while Bafetimbi Gomis is set to join Galatasaray.

The striker has had a turbulent time at Swansea and was sent on loan to Marseille last season.

He was excellent in France and Marseille were initially keen on a permanent deal, but he will head to Galatasaray imminently.

Swansea are understood to be pursuing a small fee in the region of £3 million. Daily Mail
