SPAD acting chairman to play non-executive role

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad’s appointment as Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) acting chairman will see him play a non-executive role in the government agency.

His responsibilities included chairing the meeting of the commission’s members, as well as ensuring the National Public Transport Master Plan was on track, said Minister in the Prime Minister ’s Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

She said SPAD, a statutory body established under the Land Public Transport Act 2010 and Public Land Transport Commission Act 2010, had clear responsibilities and powers.

“As a government agency under the Prime Minister’s Department, the responsibility of ensuring good governance in SPAD lies on the shoulders of its members.

“The government has always ensured that there are checks and balances in the implementation of activities and operations under SPAD,” she said yesterday.

She said SPAD’s audit committee and legal department ensured that the commission followed the latest administration and legal requirements in carrying out tasks.

“As a planning body and an industry regulator that is professional and proactive, SPAD has standard operating procedures it needs to follow.”

She said the government had guidelines and a mechanism to ensure land public transportation was developed in a transparent and trustworthy manner.

As the minister in charge of the commission, Nancy said her experience with SPAD provided her the confidence that its chief executive officer, Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah, and management team practised good governance, including in operations, planning, licensing and enforcement.
