LORRY WEDGED UNDER FLYOVER CAUSES JAM
Incident happened at Km188 of North-South Expressway
APHOTOGRAPH of a lorry wedged under a flyover at the highway has raised concerns among local motorists of possible massive traffic congestion, coupled with the heavy traffic volume caused by the balik kampung exodus just before Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
The incident, which caused a five-hour traffic jam on Thursday afternoon, has, however, since been cleared by the authorities, with the lorry temporarily parked at the Jasin toll on Thursday night.
Netizens continued sharing pictures of the lorry on WhatsApp yesterday morning, prompting the police to come forward to clear the air.
The message shared widely on WhatsApp groups read: “Sesiapa yg ingin ke Johor tlg cari jln alternatif keluar ayer keroh or lain, ada lori tersangkut kat jambatan highway merlimau jasin memang jem terok...”
(Those heading to Johor are advised to seek alternative routes to exit Ayer Keroh or other areas because a lorry has gotten stuck under a flyover near Merlimau, Jasin, causing massive traffic jams.)
Jasin district police chief Assistant Commissioner Arshad Abu said the incident happened at 6pm on Thursday when the lorry transporting steel rolls drove below the flyover at Km188 of the North-South Expressway, near Bemban.
“The southbound lorry was removed from the scene at 11.40pm yesterday (Thursday). Traffic flow has returned to normal,” he said.
