Tell PO1 to step down, Kit Siang urged

-

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang should ask his son to step down as Penang chief minister in view of the latter’s pending corruption case if he wants his demands of others to be taken seriously.

In issuing the call, press secretary to the prime minister Datuk Seri Tengku Sariffuddin Tengku Ahmad said: “Kit Siang should ask his son, Penang Official 1, to step down in lieu of his impending corruption case.

“Only then would people take his demands of others seriously.”

Lim’s son, Guan Eng, is facing corruption charges over the purchase of his RM2.8 million double-storey house in Jalan Pinhorn, George Town, and also obtaining gratification for himself and his wife by approving the conversion of two lots of agricultural land into residential development.

Tengku Sariffuddin said Kit Siang should also stop using other issues to divert attention from the Bank Negara foreign exchange (forex) scandal.

“Instead, he should reveal the wrongdoings by (former prime minister) Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on this matter, which led to alleged losses of US$10 billion (RM43 billion) of the people’s money.

“After decades of calling for a

Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI), Kit Siang’s new-found silence on this issue and his new alliance with his former jailor Dr Mahathir — all for the sake of political expediency — exposes the nature of the man, his lack of principles and integrity, and his unquenchable thirst for power over Malaysia,” he said yesterday.

Tengku Sariffuddin said Kit Siang should realise that in this day and age, the people had no respect for a dictator, “whether self-confessed ones like Dr Mahathir or dictators-in-denial like Kit Siang”.

“Hence, any statements by Kit Siang are self-serving and cannot be trusted or believed,” he said.

Tengku Sariffuddin said Kit Siang should stop trying to hide that DAP had the most number of opposition seats, and therefore, in reality, called the shots (behind the scenes).

“As DAP is the clear opposition leader, Malaysians need to know who Kit Siang will nominate to be prime minister if the opposition wins the next general election.

“Kit Siang must come clean on his choice for PM as it is the right of the people to know who they will be ruled by if they vote for the opposition.”

He said Kit Siang and the DAP-led government would be a disaster for Malaysia and the people.
