Mufti: Reject foreign meddling

-

KOTA BARU: Muslims should not allow foreigners to intervene in the country’s domestic affairs as such actions can be a threat to sovereignty.

Kelantan Mufti Datuk Mohamad Shukri Mohamad said Malaysia had its own sovereignty that should be respected and there should never be any foreign interference.

Shukri said he believed foreign powers would continue to provoke Malaysia and the people must be firm in rejecting them.

“Muslims must realise that this type of enemies are like syaitan (demon), who will continue to provoke and only be silent until they weaken us or bring us down.

“This is what they do all the time.

“They cannot see the rise of Islam and will harp on it.”

Malaysia remained steadfast and had managed to stave off foreign intervention for now, but the people must be firm in their convictions, he said.

“We should strengthen our position and must take it as a lesson on what has happened in the Middle East.”

He said this in commenting on Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s remarks against foreign intervention in domestic affairs recently.

In an open letter addressed to political parties, Hadi said history

had shown that foreign meddling could destroy countries.

Shukri hit out at those who allowed foreigners to interfere in Malaysia’s domestic affairs to win elections.

In Alor Star, Kedah Umno Youth called for the authorities to investigate individuals linked to the United States Department of Justice (DoJ) suit.

Its chief, Datuk Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin, said this following DoJ’s actions with regard to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd investigations, which he deemed as “peculiar” and “selective”.

He said the DoJ move may be a conspiracy by certain quarters to put pressure on the government.
