Traffic slower as KL folk head home after holidays

-

KUALA LUMPUR: City folk began travelling back to the federal capital here yesterday after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday. Many are starting work today.

Checks by the New Straits Times at the KL Sentral station found city dwellers began arriving from 1.30pm.

A 27-year-old, who wished to be known only as Ima, said she had just returned from Sabah.

“I applied for 11 days of leave and I am ready to start work,” she said after arriving here from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport yesterday.

A writer, who wanted to be known only as Jeff and who arrived from Ipoh, said he was aware that work would start today.

“It is common to feel the blues after a long break, but it is time to work. I am happy I have visited my family back home.”

Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) Intercity general manager Justine Jude said KTM had made preparations for those returning to the city.

He said about 203,000 Electric Train Service train tickets had been sold out from June 19 to July 2.

Bernama reports that traffic flow was slower than normal on several major highways in the afternoon and evening because of a higher volume of vehicles.

A PLUS Malaysia Bhd spokesman said traffic flow was slower in both directions between Pendang and Sungai Petani in Kedah, between Permatang Pauh and Prai in Penang and between Bukit Merah and Taiping, as well as up to the Menora Tunnel in Perak.
