MUFY offers flexibility

-

SUNWAY College provides tremendous opportunities for students along with the supported freedom to unleash their full potential.

One of the students who had benefited from the excellent learning culture in Sunway College is Michelle Lee.

Lee,17, completed the Monash University Foundation Year (MUFY) programme at Sunway College last year.

“Throughout all six schools I have been to, including public, private and international schools, I found Sunway prioritised the merit of their students the most, not just for me but for all the many hardworking and capable students I’ve met as well,” she said.

She chose MUFY as she wanted an internationally-recognised programme that encompassed more than purely recalling information.

“It gave me the requirements I needed in a shorter time frame.

“It was more coursework based, which I appreciated. It is one of the most flexible pre-university programmes available,” she said.

“I also enjoyed the balance between coursework and final exams that MUFY had as it kept me on track with my grades while still giving me enough free time to pursue other activities.”

As a student, she found it a challenge when it came to balancing academic load with extracurricular activities.

“We were constantly working on several different assignments at once and the clubs I was in aimed to have constant activities all year round to accommodate students from all different programmes.”

Lee is the recipient of The Jeffrey Cheah Entrance Scholarship and a Sunway Student Ambassador.

“Sincere educators have profound influence in shaping a student’s education and character. I also picked up soft skills, timemanagement, negotiation skills and became more independent during my period of study.”

For Lee, some of the most memorable moments of her MUFY experience include completing assignments, conducting data analysis and writing research reports.

“Some of my teachers were incredibly engaging as well due to their great experiences, characters and teaching skills,” she said.

She looks forward to continuing her studies at the Minerva Schools at Keck Graduate Institute in San Francisco, California, in late August this year.

“The Minerva class of 2021 already has an online group chat to get ourselves familiar with each other,” she said.

“I hope to perform well and make full use of the opportunities they provide to contribute positively to society on an international scale.

“More specifically, I’m interested in Machine Learning, but I’m keeping my options open.”

She said the most important takeaway from her time in the MUFY programme at Sunway College was the appreciation for caring and capable educators, as well as a drive to pursue opportunities that are provided to her.

She encouraged future students of Sunway College to make use of everything that Sunway has made available to them.

“You will grow the most when you do things that are beyond your required syllabus.

“This does not mean that you neglect your studies, but if you don’t venture beyond your academic syllabus, you will not be prepared for work,” she said.

MUFY programme at Sunway College is recognised by all local and Australian universities.

The programme is an academic bridge for students’ transitioning into undergraduate studies.

The curriculum encourages analytical and critical thinking, while the method of continuing assessment combined with final examinations focuses on the application of knowledge.

MUFY at Sunway College is an international programme, in terms of curriculum, recognition and enrolment with students coming from all over the globe.

To date, close to 10,000 students have graduated from the MUFY programme at Sunway College.

Sunway College is the only provider of the MUFY programme in Malaysia. It is the largest and most established provider among all MUFY providers in Australia, China, Indonesia, Sri

Lanka and Malaysia.
