Malaysia aims to win the most number of gold medals.
It is good to see the Malaysian Organising Committee (Masoc) offering free tickets for 28 events and 19 sports.
The tickets, which cost RM10 to RM20, can be bought online (www.kualalumpur2017.com. my), in malls and kiosks at competition venues.
Visitors can plan their leave early to ensure they get to see their favourite events, for Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has vowed this to be a “legacy games” of all Sea Games.
Malaysia’s mascot, Rimau, has been seen in the electronic and print media.
To draw more people to the events, the sports schedules need to be disseminated to fans through newspapers and websites, giving information on ticketing sales outlets and pricing, venues, programme schedules and transportation to venue sites.
Public relation firms must play their role more aggressively so that people get information and support our athletes, who are competing to bring fame and honour for the nation.
What is important is the runup to the games. As the host, we have to ensure that the games is the best organised, complying with international requirements and without compromising on safety and security.
Hopefully, with Malaysia emerging top as the winner, and athletes breaking records, it will spur the world to recognise and respect these biennial games.
