6 CHARGED WITH WORKER’S MURDER
Pregnant woman among those charged with killing hotel employee
SIX people, including a pregnant woman and four underaged boys, were charged at the magistrate’s court here yesterday with the murder of hotel worker M. Sathiwill last month.
A. Tulasi, 30; E. Vinoth, 25; four boys, aged between 15 and 17, and two others still at large were jointly charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
If found guilty, all the accused face a mandatory death sentence.
They were charged with murdering Sathiwill, 20, at No. 1, Tingkat 16, Blok J, Boundary Road here between 1am and 1pm on June 27.
The six nodded to show they understood when the charge was read in Tamil by the court translator before magistrate Mohd Amin Shahol Hamid.
No plea was recorded from them.
The magistrate did not allow bail as the charge was a non-bailable offence.
He fixed Oct 3 for mention of the case and submission of medical report and other relevant documents.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Fatin Hussin prosecuted while the accused were unrepresented.
Earlier, while the court was in session, the victim’s 60-year-old grandmother, known only as Devi, was spotted crying in the public gallery.
Also seen sobbing in court were family members of the accused.
Prior to the proceedings, Devi asked lensmen at the court to capture the suspects’ faces and not hide them.
“Show their faces to the public. Don’t cover their faces.
“Let the people know that they killed my grandson...my poor grandson,” she said while crying uncontrollably outside the courtroom.
Devi was consoled by other family members.
