Learn rules and ethics of rearing dogs, Muslims urged
YAN: Muslims are urged to understand the procedure and limitations of rearing or holding dogs to avoid confusion in their faith as well as perceptions and views among themselves.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said this was because the animal is categorised as “najis mughallazah”, that is the serious form of uncleanliness which requires specific cleansing methods under the Syafie sect.
“It needs to be washed with soil and clean water.
“I think before we touch an animal which is ‘mughallazah’ in nature, we need to understand the ethics and regulations of the relationship and purification involving the animal,” he said.
He said this during the Jerai Parliamentary Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house, which was attended by his wife Datin Seri Fatmawati Saidin and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki at Guar Chempedak near here yesterday.
Jamil Khir, who is the Jerai member of parliament, was commenting on the action of a Muslim woman known as Nurhanizah Abdul Rahman, who uploaded her video about her dog Bubu on Facebook last Saturday.
He said although dogs were often kept for special purposes such as hunting, guarding the house and for security, which is permitted, the owners were subject to the rules that Muslims must adhere to.
Jamil Khir said the final preparation for the 30,200 pilgrims to perform haj had gone smoothly and they had been given instructions by the Pilgrims Fund Board.
“There is a Federal Territory Level Premier Haj course tomorrow where I will officially open and brief our pilgrims... we have made preparations for all pilgrims, including their flights.”
The pilgrims will leave for the holy land with the first flight scheduled for July 24. Bernama
