Chandirann’s rock solid run
AFTER years of hard work and frustration, K. Chandirann’s dream to win a road race finally materialised.
He won the men’s open category in the Rock-To-Rock Philanthropic Run in Batu Ferringhi recently.
The 21-year-old said he had registered for the race for fun after hearing that it was very popular and for charity.
Chandirann, who clocked 37 minutes 12 seconds to finish the 10.2km race, said he did not expect to win the race.
He was even more surprised when it was announced that he had broken the meet record of 37 minutes 15 seconds set by A. Christopher last year.
“I really did not expect to win as I believe the time I clocked was not that good, but anyway this win has motivated me to train harder for the Penang Bridge International Marathon in November,” he said.
“So I hope this win at the Rockto-Rock Run would give me extra motivation and luck to win at the bridge run,” said Chandirann after collecting his prizes at the Hard Rock Hotel in Tanjung Bungah.
M. Muniandy and Ricky Beh finished second and third respectively in the men’s open.
In the men’s veterans, Ch’ng Bak Choon won gold while Ooi Kok Chang took silver and Tan Tik Wea the bronze.
In the women’s open, Joanne Lim, Foo San Sang and Catherine Yeo took the top three spots respectively.
Sisters Ann Chong and Stephanie Chong ran a neck-andneck race in the women’s veterans to win gold and silver respectively while Lim Siew Suan settled for bronze. K. Kandiah
